COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri Office of Advancement officials have announced the first Mizzou Giving Day will be held in the 24-hour period from 12 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, to 12 p.m. Thursday, March 16. Mizzou Giving Day is the university’s first day-long campaign to raise support from MU alumni and friends. The 24-hour campaign hopes to inspire the entire university community—alumni, friends, faculty, staff and parents—to support any school, college, program or area at the university.

“In the current economic climate, private support for Mizzou has never been more important,” said Todd McCubbin, executive director of the Mizzou Alumni Association. “We cannot help but think how lucky we are to have alumni and friends who are willing to strengthen Mizzou through private giving. Gifts made through Mizzou Giving Day can help schools, colleges and programs enhance students’ experiences, support innovative research and provide community service that ensure MU’s place as a top-tier institution.”

Mizzou Giving Day is a comprehensive fundraising effort, striving to raise support for all areas of the university. Thanks to private donors who have already pledged “challenge gifts,” Mizzou Giving Day will encourage friendly competition among schools, colleges and units to maximize the impact of the university community’s generosity. The five schools, colleges and units that raise the most money and receive the highest number of gifts will win bonus funds provided by challenge gifts. Additional challenge gifts also will fund five social media challenges. The winner of each social media challenge will receive $900 to designate to the school, college or program of their choice.

While a few fundraising tables will be set up in the MU Student Center, Mizzou Giving Day primarily will be an online giving campaign. Donors can visit to make donations to any school, college, unit or program they wish. Donors also can visit that link throughout Mizzou Giving Day for updates about fundraising totals for each school and college as well as the total amount of money raised for the university. Supporters also can give to Mizzou by calling (866) 267-7568. Donors and the Mizzou community can share in celebrating Mizzou Giving Day on social media with #MizzouGivingDay on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Mizzou Giving Day is a part of the Mizzou: Our Time to Lead campaign. With an overall fundraising goal of $1.3 billion, the comprehensive campaign will secure the University of Missouri’s status among the nation’s elite public universities by focusing on three priorities:

  • Endowment to compete with other institutions will strengthen the ability to attract and retain stellar students and faculty.
  • Signature centers and institutes will be the engine of research growth that will enhance MU’s AAU status and add to the university’s distinctiveness; and a campus renaissance.
  • Campus renaissance spurred by new and renovated facilities will propel Mizzou to global leadership in education and research and will help attract and retain students and faculty.
