MEDIA ADVISORY: MU Department of Bioengineering Celebrating 100th Anniversary

WHAT: The University of Missouri Division of Food Systems and Engineering is celebrating the 100th anniversary of engineering for agriculture with guided building tours, demonstrations and displays on Friday, Feb. 10.

The Colleges of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR) and Engineering partner to facilitate the teaching, research and extension that is needed to provide this educational venue.

Bioengineering is a science-based engineering discipline that integrates engineering and biological sciences in one curriculum. Students in this department develop products and design systems or processes for improved human health and protection of the environment. Recent examples of Mizzou bioengineering advancements and projects include:

  • An implantable biofilter that catches tumor cells circulating in the bloodstream
  • Silver-coated stem cell scaffolds that fight Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)
  • Carbon-capture and storage technology that can make fossil fuel power plants more environmentally friendly

Brats from the Mizzou Meat Market and light refreshments will be provided.
