MEDIA ADVISORY: MU Honors Faculty, Student Inventors and Entrepreneurs at Annual Event

WHAT: University of Missouri students, faculty and inventors will be honored for their patents, discoveries and startup businesses at the 2015 Innovation & Entrepreneurial Recognition Dinner. During the event, 10 inventors will be inducted as founding members of the Mizzou Chapter of the National Academy of Inventors.

Recipients of the UM System President’s Student Entrepreneurial Award, the UM System President’s Economic Development Award and the Mizzou Advantage Entrepreneurial Award will be recognized.

WHO: Speakers include:

  • Garnett Stokes, MU provost
  • Joe Henderson, president, Boone County National Bank
  • Hank Foley, senior vice chancellor for research and graduate studies at MU and executive vice president for academic affairs, research and economic development for the UM System.
  • Steve Wyatt, associate vice chancellor and vice provost for economic development

WHEN: 5:15 p.m., Thursday, April 30.

MU campus.

NOTE: In the last fiscal year, 35 U.S. patents were issued to members of the MU community who invented novel devices or discovered innovative methods. Additionally, 38 MU inventors licensed 18 new technologies, resulting in the establishment of six startup companies.

Election to the National Academy of Inventors is a status accorded to academic inventors who have demonstrated a highly prolific spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating outstanding inventions that have made a tangible impact on quality of life, economic development or the welfare of society.
