WHAT: The University of Missouri will hold several events during Mid-Missouri’s Innovation Week. Hosts include Mizzou and a group of regional organizations, universities and businesses that support and celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit of mid-Missouri inventors. Major supporters include Central Bank of Boone County and the Columbia Business Times.
Some of the weeks’ events hosted by Mizzou or the Missouri Innovation Center will include:
Made in Mid-Missouri
Monday, Oct. 9
11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Kimball Ball Room, Stephens College, 6 N. College Ave, Columbia
Cost: $20.00
Come listen to a panel of entrepreneurs turned business owners who have successfully launched a new local company. Learn how Columbia has been, and will continue to be, the birth place for significant companies, such as Veterans United, that are leaders in national and global markets.
Sam Richter Keynote Addresses
Wednesday, Oct. 11
10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m., and 3 – 4:30 p.m.
Reynolds Alumni Center, Columns Ballroom, MU Campus
Cost: Free for students, $25.00 for non-students ($15.00 for Columbia Chamber of Commerce Members).
Richter will present his tips on talking plainly and honestly in prospect or client meetings. In this dynamic presentation, attendees will discover web search secrets for finding leads, creating lists and uncovering opportunities; tips and tricks for using social media; how to leverage online information that may be invisible to some search engines; and how to use information to differentiate from the competition, generate warm referrals and build deeper relationships.
Missouri Tech Challenge
Wednesday, Oct. 11
5:30 – 9 p.m.
The Blue Note, 17 N. 9th Street, Columbia
Cost: Admission is $5.00 for pre-registration or $10 at the door.
Live on stage, budding entrepreneurs will get the chance to bring their dreams to fruition. Tech companies will pitch to the Missouri Innovation Center Investment Committee for investment in their business. Unlike a pitch competition, there’s no guarantee any company will receive money. But, those that do can receive up to $50,000 from the Missouri Innovation Center Accelerator Fund to launch or grow their company.
Mizzou Innovator Half-Day Conference
Thursday, Oct. 12
1 – 5 p.m.
Bond Life Sciences Center, MU campus
Gain insights from keynote speaker Michael Helmstetter, President and CEO of capital development company TechAccel and an expert in startups, spinoffs and technology advancement. Learn from investment, business and tech-transfer pros who will share practical information about what it takes to commercialize early-stage innovations from MU.
MU Presents, Celebrating Innovation
Thursday, Oct. 12
5:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Reynolds Alumni Center, MU Campus, Columns Ballroom and Great Room
Cost: $75 per person
The creativity and vision of MU’s entrepreneurs and faculty inventors play a large role in making the University of Missouri a destination for innovation. Mizzou’s entrepreneurs advance well-being, enhance systems, overcome obstacles, and meet unmet needs. They improve the lives of citizens locally, regionally, nationally and around the globe. Tim Miles, a local entrepreneur, TEDxMizzou speaker and author of the upcoming book, “Brand Your Own Business,” is the keynote speaker. Join us as we recognize and celebrate these exceptional members of the MU community.
