MEDIA ADVISORY: MU students chasing startup dreams by participating in a pitch competition for a chance at winning up to $15,000

WHAT: Much like on the television series Shark Tank, University of Missouri students will have the opportunity as budding entrepreneurs to bring their startup dreams to reality with the chance of winning up to $15,000 toward making their dream come alive.

First, students must pitch their idea in a competition. Competitions will be held at each university within the UM System, during which judges at each university location will select 10 semifinalists to participate in an 8-week educational program and additional competitions. A champion round for the top three finalists from each UM university will happen in the spring, with the first, second and third place winners receiving $15,000, $10,000 and $5,000 respectively.

WHO: Students who previously submitted applications to the selection committee.

WHEN: Monday, Nov. 12

  • 9:30 a.m. – Doors open
  • 10:00 a.m. – Opening remarks and pitch competition
  • 12:30 p.m. – Media availability and networking reception

WHERE: Monsanto Auditorium, Bond Life Sciences Center, MU Campus
