Story Contact(s):
Nathan Hurst, hurstn@missouri.edu, 573-882-6217

WHAT: The Mizzou Advantage initiative at the University of Missouri is hosting a symposium to discuss research data from MU researchers on creativity and new media. The event is co-sponsored by the Margaret Mangel Lectureship, the MU College of Human Environmental Sciences and the MU Department of Architectural Studies. MU researchers from different academic disciplines invited students from different majors to design 21st century online greeting cards for Hallmark, Inc. While the students worked together to create these cards, MU researchers recorded their actions and collected data on the creative process.

Now, the researchers have invited experts in psychology and creativity from across the world to analyze and discuss the data that was collected and to explore the interdisciplinary creative process. The keynote speaker will be Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, a professor of psychology at Claremont Graduate School and author of “Creativity: Flow and the Psychology of Discovery and Invention.”

The symposium is sponsored by the Media for the Future area of Mizzou Advantage. Mizzou Advantage is a program that focuses on four areas of MU strength: food for the future; media of the future; one health, one medicine; and sustainable energy. The goals of Mizzou Advantage are to strengthen existing faculty networks, create new networks and propel Mizzou’s research, instruction and other activities to the next level.
