CALENDAR ITEM: MU to Host Pre-Screening of Civil War Film

WHAT: The University of Missouri will host an early screening of the upcoming film Copperhead. Set during the Civil War, the film tells the story of the “Copperheads,” a New York group of pacifists, and the price they paid when they refused to take sides during the bloodiest war in American history. Copperhead offers an unflinching portrayal of the hysteria of war time and the terrible price that is paid through fractured families, broken loves and men who died before their time. The film is based on the 1893 novel by Harold Frederic and is set to release in theaters in the United States on Friday, June 28.

In addition to the screening of Copperhead, individuals will have an opportunity to meet director Ron Maxwell, who also directed Gettysburg and Gods and Generals. Free items will be available from the Blue Note, True/False Film Festival, Citizen Jane Film Festival, The Missouri Review, the Museum of Art and Archaeology and others.
