MEDIA ADVISORY: MU to Host International Conference on Condensed Matter Nuclear Science

WHAT: The University of Missouri will host the 18th International Conference on Condensed Matter Nuclear Science. The conference, which was first held in 1990, brings together the world’s leading scientists to discuss a low-energy nuclear reaction (LENR), which has been theorized to be a new type of reliable and scalable energy source .
This year, topics of discussion include the history of LENR, what is condensed matter, and nuclear transmutation. In addition to these topics, the conference also will feature panels on entrepreneurship and innovation in the field of LENR, emerging career opportunities in the field, and where LENR is heading in the future.
Keynote speakers at this year’s conference are James Truchard from National Instruments and David Kidwell from the Naval Research Laboratory. Truchard cofounded National Instruments in 1976, which was recently recognized as a Fortune 100 “Best Places to Work,” and has pioneered the way scientists and engineers solve some of the world’s substantial engineering challenges. Kidwell was one of the first scientists to propose new mechanisms by which illegal drugs bind to hair. He is a court certified expert on hair testing to determine substance abuse, a field in which he is well known.
The conference also will provide an opportunity for attendees to tour various facilities on the MU campus. Some of the tours include the International Center for Nano/Micro Systems and Nanotechnology, the International Institute for Nano and Molecular Medicine, the MU Research Reactor, the Nuclear Science and Engineering Institute, and the Sidney Kimmel Institute for Nuclear Renaissance. Prior to the conference, MU will host an introductory course about LENR. The fee-based course will be available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, July 21.
