Friedman is a frequent consultant for awareness campaigns for single-payer health insurance across the United States and a well-known public speaker on this topic. His teaching and research interests focus on economic history, labor history, labor economics and the history of economic thought. Friedman also has been a regular media correspondent on the international financial crisis. His most recent analysis, which can be seen here, argued that a single-payer national health program would make it possible to provide universal coverage and comprehensive benefits to future generations at a sustainable cost.
