MEDIA ADVISORY: MU Truman School of Public Affairs to Host Monroe-Paine Lecture on Health Care Finance

WHAT: The University of Missouri Harry S Truman School of Public Affairs will host the Monroe-Paine Distinguished Lecture in Public Affairs. Gerald Friedman, a professor of economics at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, will present, “Missouri and Single Payer: Health Care Finance Beyond the Affordable Care Act.”
Friedman is a frequent consultant for awareness campaigns for single-payer health insurance across the United States and a well-known public speaker on this topic. His teaching and research interests focus on economic history, labor history, labor economics and the history of economic thought. Friedman also has been a regular media correspondent on the international financial crisis. His most recent analysis, which can be seen here, argued that a single-payer national health program would make it possible to provide universal coverage and comprehensive benefits to future generations at a sustainable cost. Friedman earned his doctoral degree in economics at Harvard University and has authored numerous scholarly books and peer-reviewed journal articles.

The series brings leading policy experts to MU to give public lectures, conduct research seminars, and meet with students and faculty.
