MEDIA ADVISORY: MU Celebrates 25th Anniversary of Kemper Fellowships by Honoring Faculty
$50,000 to be awarded to elite MU teachers this week

WHAT: The University of Missouri is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the William T. Kemper Fellowships for Teaching Excellence, by awarding outstanding MU teachers with the 2015 Fellowships, which include $10,000 cash awards. Chancellor R. Bowen Loftin and Commerce Bank Chairman Jim Schatz will surprise the teachers during classes this week.

Wednesday, April 1
12:30 p.m. – Media should assemble on the second floor in front of the University Club entrance in the Reynolds Alumni Center on the MU campus. Three awards will be given out consecutively; the final award will be given at 2 p.m.
Thursday, April 2
11:10 a.m. – Media should assemble on the second floor in front of the University Club entrance in the Reynolds Alumni Center on the MU campus. One award will be given.
Friday, April 3
10:35 a.m. – Media should assemble in the first floor lobby of the Reynolds Alumni Center on the MU campus. One final award will be given.
The awards are a surprise to the recipients; therefore classroom locations will not be revealed until immediately prior to the presentations.
NOTE: The William T. Kemper Fellowships for Teaching Excellence were created in 1991 with a $500,000 gift to honor outstanding MU teachers. Commerce Bank manages the trust fund.
Kemper, a 1926 graduate of MU, was a well-known civic leader in Kansas City until his death in 1989. His 52-year career in banking included top positions in banks in Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma.
