CALENDAR ITEM: MU Hosts ‘Haunted’ Observatory, Ghostly Historical Scientists Will Bring Astronomy to Life

WHAT: With Halloween approaching, scientists from the University of Missouri’s Department of Physics and Astronomy will host a Halloween-themed observatory to teach children about astronomy. The event will feature Harry Potter and deceased astronomers from history who will be available to talk with kids as they view the night sky from the observatory. Candy and other treats will be available during the event.
Children will have opportunities to visit the “Hogwarts Astronomy Tower” where they will meet long-dead historical astronomers, including Carl Sagan, Isaac Newton, Annie Jump Cannon and Sally Ride. Ghosts will be shepherded by guests from the astronomy tower at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, including Professors Snape and McGonagal.

NOTE: This event is free and open to the public. The observatory will be open, weather permitting.
