MEDIA ADVISORY: MU Professors to be Honored with Kemper Fellowships

$50,000 to be awarded to elite MU teachers this week

WHAT: Five William T. Kemper Fellowships for Teaching Excellence, which include $10,000 cash awards, will be given to outstanding teachers at the University of Missouri this week. Interim Chancellor Hank Foley and Commerce Bank Chairman Jim Schatz will surprise the teachers during classes throughout the week.

WHO: Five outstanding MU faculty members.

WHEN & WHERE:

Tuesday, April 5

10 a.m. – Media should meet in front of the chancellor’s office, Room 105 in Jesse Hall, for the first presentation.

Wednesday, April 6

8:30 a.m. – Media should meet in front of the chancellor’s office, Room 105 in Jesse Hall, for the first of three presentations on Wednesday.

1:30 p.m. – Media should meet in front of the chancellor’s office, Room 105 in Jesse Hall, for the second of three presentations on Wednesday.

4:10 p.m. – Media should meet in front of the chancellor’s office, Room 105 in Jesse Hall, for the final presentation on Wednesday.

The day and time of the final 2016 Kemper Fellowship presentation will be announced later this week.

The awards are a surprise to the recipients; therefore, classroom locations will not be revealed until immediately prior to the presentations.

NOTE: The William T. Kemper Fellowships for Teaching Excellence were created in 1991 with a $500,000 gift to honor outstanding MU teachers. Commerce Bank manages the trust fund.

Kemper, a 1926 graduate of MU, was a well-known civic leader in Kansas City until his death in 1989. His 52-year career in banking included top positions in banks in Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma.
