MEDIA ADVISORY: MU Professors to be Honored with Kemper Fellowships

$50,000 to be awarded to elite MU teachers

WHAT: Five William T. Kemper Fellowships for Teaching Excellence, which include $10,000 cash awards, are being awarded to outstanding teachers at the University of Missouri the week of March 20. Interim Chancellor Hank Foley and Commerce Bank Chairman and CEO Teresa Maledy will surprise the teachers during classes throughout the week.

WHO: Four outstanding MU faculty members.

WHEN &

WHERE: Tuesday, March 21

8:40 a.m. – Media should meet in front of the chancellor’s office, Room 105, Jesse Hall, for two of three presentations on Tuesday.

12 p.m. – Media should meet in front of the chancellor’s office, Room 105, Jesse Hall, for the third presentation on Tuesday.

Wednesday, March 22

10:15 a.m. – Media should meet in front of the chancellor’s office, Room 105, Jesse Hall, for the final presentation.

The awards are a surprise to the recipients; therefore, classroom locations will not be                              revealed until immediately prior to the presentations.

 NOTE: The William T. Kemper Fellowships for Teaching Excellence were created in 1991 with a $500,000 gift to honor outstanding MU teachers. Commerce Bank manages the trust fund.

Kemper, a 1926 graduate of MU, was a well-known civic leader in Kansas City until his death in 1989. His 52-year career in banking included top positions in banks in Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma.
