CALENDAR ITEM: MU Hosts 33rd Annual Missouri Life Sciences Week

WHAT:  The 33rd annual Missouri Life Sciences Week celebrates MU’s depth and breadth of  research in human and animal health, the environment, world food supply, fuels, and more.

The annual science event attracts researchers, academicians, business leaders and policymakers, and includes a poster session that showcases more than 300 undergraduate, graduate, post-doctoral researchers and MU faculty members.

Presenters include:

  • Frances Colón, former deputy adviser to the former Secretary of State, will present “My Path to Science Citizenship,” 3:30 p.m., Monday, April 10, in Monsanto Auditorium in the Bond Life Sciences Center.
  • Tom Schneider, tenured researcher with the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health, will present “Three Principles of Biological States: Ecology and Cancer,” 1:15 p.m., Tuesday, April 11, in Monsanto Auditorium in the Bond Life Sciences Center.
  • Jessica Whited, assistant professor at Harvard Medical School, will present “Identifying Roadblocks to Regeneration in Axolotl Salamanders,” 3:30 p.m., Thursday, April 13, in Monsanto Auditorium in the Bond Life Sciences Center.
  • Andrew D. Hanson, professor of horticultural sciences at the University of Florida, will present the Charles W. Gerhrke Distinguished Lecture, “Fixing or Safely Trashing Broken Metabolites – And Why it Matters,” 1 p.m., Friday, April 14, in Monsanto Auditorium in the Bond Life Sciences Center.

Additionally, speakers will present an afternoon workshop, “Framing Your Future,” which will cover life after graduate school, including tips on how to navigate the job market and dealing with challenges in the workplace, 1 – 5 p.m., Wednesday, April 12, in the Bond Life Sciences Center, Room 171.
