WHAT:  With the structural component of the Lafferre Hall Renovation almost complete, the University of Missouri’s College of Engineering will host a “topping out” ceremony that signifies a significant milestone in a construction project. The project is almost halfway complete and has reached maximum height. The ceremony will mark the moment the final beam is hoisted into place.

The event will feature a 13-foot long green beam that will be available beginning at 8:30 a.m. for faculty, staff, students, alumni and donors to sign prior to the ceremony when the beam will be lifted into place at 10 a.m. The beam will feature a small cedar tree decorated to represent the field of engineering.

On Oct. 16, 2014, Governor Jay Nixon toured Lafferre and approved the state’s issuance of $38.5 million for renovations to the 1935 and 1944 sections of the building; this event marks the approximate halfway point in the project.

WHO:  MU faculty/staff, students, alumni and donors

WHERE:  Northeast corner of Thomas and Nell Lafferre Hall, Engineering Building, MU Campus

WHEN:  10 – 10:45 a.m., Monday, March 14, 2016

NOTE:  Following the ceremony, the College of Engineering invites participants to join them for the annual Engineers’ Week hot dog banquet on the south side of Lafferre Hall. This event is free and open to the public.
