COLUMBIA, Mo. — Raising millions of dollars in a short amount of time sounds like a tremendous feat, but the University of Missouri-Columbia's Sinclair School of Nursing has become the second on campus to complete such a task. In February 2004, the nursing school met its initial goal for the For All We Call Mizzou Campaign by raising $3 million — an impressive 22 months before the conclusion of the campaign's first phase. Three years later, faculty and staff of Sinclair demonstrated steadfast determination when reaching its second goal of $5 million, this time 17 months ahead of schedule.
MU Chancellor Brady Deaton praised the efforts of Sinclair's faculty and staff with a celebration in their honor Monday in the Ann Crowe Essig Nursing Auditorium. The School of Nursing joins the School of Medical Professions in reaching its individual quota in the $1 billion For All We Call Mizzou campaign.
“Congratulations on meeting your For All We Call Mizzou campaign goal not once, but twice!” Deaton said. “Raising millions of dollars in a few short years was a new challenge for the School of Nursing. The support of faculty, staff and retirees has been tremendous. Not only have you given of your time, you have given of your personal resources.”
Rose Porter, the dean of the Sinclair School of Nursing, emphasized the camaraderie between members of the faculty and staff as a key determinate to the campaign's success.
“We are a team!” Porter said. “Our campaign goals have been met and we have had outstanding participation from the School's faculty and staff. However, this school continues to move forward.”
Deaton also recognized the School of Law and the School of Nursing for reaching 50 percent participation in the It's My Mizzou campaign at a ceremony in the Hulston Hall Student Lounge earlier in the afternoon. It's My Mizzou focuses on building the involvement of a particular school's faculty, staff and retirees in fundraising efforts.
The For All We Call Mizzou campaign has a goal of raising $1 billion by December 2008. Reaching this goal will enhance MU's ability to compete nationally and internationally for the best students and faculty and will provide broad access for students of all economic backgrounds to Missouri's flagship University. To date, the campaign has raised $825.64 million, which is more than 82 percent of the $1 billion goal.
