MEDIA ADVISORY:MU to Receive American Heart Association's Fit-Friendly Workplace Award at 2008 Chancellor's Wellness Walk

WHAT:           Chancellor’s Wellness Walk and the American Heart Association (AHA) Fit-Friendly Workplace Award presentation.  

WHO:             The event is free and open to the campus community. 

WHEN:           Thursday, May 22

The Chancellor’s Wellness Walk will take place from 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.  The AHA Fit-Friendly Workplace Award presentation will be at 12:15 p.m.

WHERE:        The 30-minute Chancellor’s Wellness Walk will begin at the south steps of Jesse Hall and continue to Tiger Plaza and Lowry Mall on the MU campus. The AHA award presentation will take place at Lowry Mall.

NOTE:            The University of Missouri is one of seven mid-Missouri businesses to be recognized as a 2008 Fit-Friendly company by the American Heart Association.

Those participating in the 30-minute walk will learn about plants throughout the MU campus as well as the importance of proper exercise. A cart will be available for individuals with mobility issues.

At Jesse Hall, a Healthy for Life station will offer blood pressure checks and demonstrations on stretching. Pedometers will be sold at Tiger Plaza and incentives will be given to encourage people to start their own walking program. People can participate in extended tours of the Mizzou Botanic Garden.

                        This program is sponsored by the Staff Advisory Council, the Office of the Chancellor, Mizzou Botanic Garden, Healthy for Life, T.E. Atkins University of Missouri Wellness Program and the Faculty Council.
