MU Provost Appoints Justice as Interim Dean of Graduate Studies

COLUMBIA, Mo. - University of Missouri Provost Brian Foster has announced that George Justice, associate dean of the MU Graduate School, has been named interim vice provost for advanced studies and dean of the Graduate School, effective July 1.

"I look forward to leading our campus's efforts in graduate education through building programs and recruiting, training, and supporting the outstanding students who contribute so much to our research and teaching missions," Justice said. "Dean Benoit has been a great leader of the Graduate School, and I hope to continue her record of improving the effectiveness of the services we provide to faculty and graduate programs across the University of Missouri."

Currently, Justice is the associate dean of the Graduate School, with responsibility for the Preparing Future Faculty Program, the Graduate Studies Network, the International Teaching Assistant Program, Graduate School Fellowships and Awards, and other student and academic concerns. He specializes in 18th century British literature and is author of a number of articles and books on 18th century writers, publishers and the literary world.

"I know George will provide us the opportunity to continue the strong leadership and guidance that we have built with Pam Benoit," Foster said. "He has a strong sense for the mission and goals of our graduate program. I am excited for him to lead us during this transition."

Justice earned his bachelor's degree in English from Wesleyan University and his doctorate in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to coming to MU he taught at Marquette University and Louisiana State University.

Justice will replace Pam Benoit, whose last day as dean will be June 30. Plans will be announced within the next few weeks to search for a permanent dean, according to Foster.
